A friend recently asked me to point out my favorite painting. I told him that “White Painting / Storm” was definitely my favorite work (so far) because it contains all the elements I try to represent within my art. It has texture, balance, movement, it's simple and energetic. This particular piece it has the power to soothe and calm me down, even though it’s ironically titled “storm”.
I love this piece because it’s seemingly simple, I mean it’s a “white” painting how complicated could it be, right? But actually, there’s a lot going on if you take a closer look. For example, the texture points back to the epicenter of the canvass which is a swirly mound of titanium white oil paint, yet the color and varying hues move in an entirely different direction creating an interesting contrast. The simple juxtaposition really gets me going, which is why it’s my favorite.
